Yemeni Coast Guard Suspends Maritime Activity for 72 Hours Due to Rough Seas
ADEN — The Yemeni Coast Guard has announced a temporary suspension of all maritime movement for a period of 72 hours, citing dangerous sea conditions and unusually high waves along the country’s coastline.
The decision, made public on Thursday, comes as weather authorities warned of turbulent marine activity in several coastal regions, particularly in the Arabian Sea and the Gulf of Aden. The Coast Guard emphasized that the suspension is a precautionary measure aimed at safeguarding lives and preventing maritime accidents.
“Due to severe wave activity and unstable sea conditions, we are halting all marine traffic for 72 hours,” said a spokesperson for the Yemeni Coast Guard. “We urge fishermen, cargo operators, and travelers to comply with the directive and avoid venturing into the sea until further notice.”
Local ports have been instructed to suspend operations, and fishing communities have been advised to secure their vessels and remain on alert for updates. The Coast Guard is closely monitoring the situation and will reassess conditions before lifting the suspension.
This move underscores the vulnerability of Yemen’s coastal infrastructure amid ongoing challenges, including limited resources and the impact of climate-related disruptions.
