Yemen : Houthis Allow Brief Family Visit for Detained Humanitarian Worker Sara Al-Faiq
SANA’A— Houthis have permitted detained humanitarian worker Sara Al-Faiq a short visit with her family, marking her first contact with loved ones in over a year since her arrest.
The visit, which lasted approximately an hour and a half, took place under strict supervision. According to sources close to the family, the emotional reunion was marked by tears and silence, as Sara embraced her parents and siblings after months of uncertainty surrounding her fate.
Sara Al-Faiq, known for her work with displaced communities and vulnerable populations in northern Yemen, was detained by Houthi forces in 2024 under unclear circumstances. Human rights organizations have repeatedly called for her release, citing her dedication to humanitarian principles and lack of formal charges.
“It was a moment of heartbreak and hope,” said a relative who wished to remain anonymous. “She looked exhausted, but seeing her again gave us strength.”
The brief visit has sparked renewed calls from international aid groups for greater transparency and accountability in the treatment of humanitarian workers operating in conflict zones. While no official statement has been issued by Houthi leadership, observers view the gesture as a possible response to mounting pressure from global watchdogs.
Sara’s future remains uncertain, but her family expressed gratitude for the fleeting reunion and urged for her unconditional release.
