Sana’a — Yemen’s Houthi Gov't in capital Sana’a, have destroyed more than 18 tons of confiscated narcotics, including hashish, over 205,000 captagon pills, and 12.3 million pregabalin tablets, in one of the largest drug incineration operations in the country’s history.

The destruction took place in an open area on Tuesday, with security forces and officials from the Houthi-run Ministry of Interior overseeing the event. According to official statements, the drugs were seized during anti-smuggling operations conducted across several provinces since mid-2024.

Footage from the scene showed large piles of drugs set ablaze, with soldiers standing guard as thick plumes of smoke rose over the area. The operation was intended to mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, and to send a message to traffickers operating in war-torn Yemen.

Officials stated that the destruction of the narcotics was part of a broader campaign to combat drug smuggling and protect public health, despite the country’s ongoing conflict and fractured law enforcement systems.
