Yemen: New Cholera and Malaria Outbreak Threatens Residents of Ibb
Ibb – The residents of Ibb governorate are experiencing a new outbreak of cholera and malaria, with infection rates surging in recent weeks amid deteriorating healthcare services and a lack of preventive interventions, putting thousands of lives at risk.
According to local medical reports, over 6,000 cholera cases and 2,100 malaria cases have been recorded in recent days, leading to a rise in fatalities, particularly among children and the elderly.
Health officials confirmed that hospitals are receiving severe dehydration and kidney failure cases as complications from cholera, while high fever and anemia have been spreading among malaria patients.
Residents are struggling under increasing pressure due to collapsed sanitation systems and a lack of access to clean water, exacerbating the spread of infectious diseases. The shortage of medications and medical supplies further complicates efforts to control the situation, with medical teams reporting an inability to provide essential treatments for the infected.
Human rights and humanitarian organizations have called for an urgent intervention by the international community and health authorities to contain the crisis.
They urge the delivery of emergency medical aid, expansion of sanitation efforts, and provision of necessary medicines and medical equipment. Additionally, they emphasize the need for intensified health awareness campaigns to prevent further outbreaks.
