March 12, 2025 - The United Nations has issued a stark warning about the escalating hunger crisis in Yemen, where over 17 million people are facing acute food insecurity. The ongoing conflict, economic downturns, and recurring disease outbreaks have created one of the world's most severe humanitarian crises.

Food Insecurity

More than 17 million Yemenis are currently food insecure, with the situation expected to worsen in the coming months. The UN projects that the number of people experiencing emergency levels of hunger could rise to 19 million by the end of the year.

Malnutrition

The crisis has also led to severe malnutrition, particularly among children. Approximately 2.2 million children under the age of five are acutely malnourished, with 538,000 suffering from severe malnutrition.

Humanitarian Efforts

The World Food Programme (WFP) and other UN agencies are working tirelessly to provide food assistance, cash aid, and nutritional support to the affected population. However, they urgently need additional funding to continue their operations.

The UN has called for immediate international support to prevent a catastrophic famine in Yemen. The situation remains dire, and without substantial new funding, millions of lives are at risk.
