Yemen : UN Statement on the killing of a humanitarian worker in Ad Dale'
This statement is attributable to the UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator, ad interim, for Yemen, Peter Hawkins.
I am shocked and deeply saddened to learn of the appalling attack on Dr. Akeed Qaed, an ADRA staff member in Ad Dhale’ Governorate of Yemen. We received the tragic news that Dr Qaed was killed after Friday's Sermons in front of his house in Ad Dale’s District by unknown gunmen.
The entire UN family and humanitarian partners in Yemen are grieving the loss of Dr. Akeed Qaed, a Yemeni national and dedicated humanitarian. Dr. Qaed worked for ADRA for three years.
On behalf of the entire humanitarian community in Yemen, I convey my heartfelt sympathy to his family, friends, and the staff of ADRA during this difficult time.
Mr. Qaed’s death is indeed an unacceptable tragedy. I call on the authorities for a thorough and expeditious investigation into this tragic incident.
