STC Forces Foil Al-Qaeda Attack in Abyan, Yemen
Abyan — The STC Forces successfully thwarted a terrorist attack launched by Al-Qaeda militants on Monday evening against military positions in Wadi Omaran, located in the Modiyah district of eastern Abyan province.
Military officials reported that the attackers attempted to storm several sites under the control of southern units, but were repelled after intense clashes.
The operation prevented Al-Qaeda fighters from advancing and inflicted losses among their ranks.
Local sources confirmed that the confrontation caused panic among nearby residents, though security forces quickly restored calm in the area.
The Southern Armed Forces emphasized their continued vigilance in countering extremist threats and securing strategic valleys and districts across Abyan.
The incident highlights the ongoing challenges posed by Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), which has sought to exploit instability in Yemen.
