Aden -- Yemeni health authorities have confirmed 26 deaths from meningitis in government-controlled areas since the start of 2025, according to official sources.

Responsible health officials stated that the fatalities were recorded across several governorates under the internationally recognized government’s control. 

The cases highlight growing concerns over the spread of infectious diseases in a country already grappling with a fragile health system and limited medical resources.

Medical teams reported that the majority of victims were children and young adults, underscoring the vulnerability of Yemen’s population amid poor vaccination coverage and restricted access to healthcare. 

Authorities warned that the situation could worsen without urgent intervention, particularly in overcrowded displacement camps and communities lacking clean water and sanitation.

Health officials stressed the need for expanded vaccination campaigns, improved disease surveillance, and international support to prevent further outbreaks. They also urged families to seek immediate medical attention for symptoms such as severe headaches, fever, and neck stiffness, which are common indicators of meningitis.
