Ibb — In an unprecedented move last Friday, Houthi militias prevented dozens of preachers across Ibb governorate from delivering sermons and leading Friday prayers, sparking widespread outrage among local communities.

Residents in dozens of villages reported that mosques remained without authorized preachers after the restrictions were enforced, compelling worshippers to perform the regular noon (Dhuhr) prayer instead of the Friday prayer.

Local sources described the incident as the first of its kind, warning that such measures could deepen social tensions and undermine religious freedoms. 

Community members expressed concern that the move reflects broader attempts by the Houthis to exert control over religious discourse and public life.
