Yemeni State Media Journalists Appeal for Payment of Nine-Month Delayed Salaries
Aden — Journalists working in Yemen’s official media institutions have issued a public appeal to the government, urging immediate action to release their salaries, which have been suspended for the past nine months.
The appeal highlights the growing financial hardship faced by employees of state-run newspapers, radio, and television outlets, many of whom say they are struggling to meet basic living expenses amid the country’s ongoing economic crisis.
Media professionals stressed that the prolonged salary freeze not only undermines their livelihoods but also threatens the sustainability of public information services at a time when Yemenis rely heavily on credible reporting.
“We have continued to fulfill our professional duties despite the lack of pay, but the situation has become unbearable,” one journalist said, calling on authorities to prioritize the welfare of media workers.
The journalists warned that failure to resolve the issue could weaken the role of official media in covering humanitarian, security, and political developments across the country.
They urged the government to uphold its responsibility toward employees who serve the public interest and safeguard the nation’s information infrastructure.
