Ibb — An attempted armed robbery targeting a Yemeni expatriate in the al-Dairi area of Ibb governorate late Friday resulted in the death and injury of three people, according to local sources.

Witnesses reported that gunmen tried to assault the expatriate, leading to an exchange of fire that left one person dead and two others wounded. 

The incident sparked panic among residents, who said the sound of gunshots echoed through the neighborhood.

Local authorities have not yet issued an official statement, but residents expressed concern over the growing insecurity in Ibb, where armed robberies and violent crimes have been on the rise. Community members called for stronger measures to protect civilians and curb the spread of weapons in densely populated areas.

The attack highlights the vulnerability of expatriates and returnees, many of whom are perceived as financially targeted by armed groups. Observers warn that the deteriorating security situation in Ibb reflects broader instability across Houthi-controlled regions of Yemen.
