Yemeni Transport Authority Enforces New Mandatory Land Route to Saudi Arabia Following Al-Arqoub Road Tragedy
Aden -- Yemeni General Transport Authority has announced a new mandatory route for all land transport between Yemen and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The directive, which takes effect on November 9, 2025, aims to enhance road safety and regulate cross-border travel.
The decision follows a tragic incident on the Al-Arqoub road that claimed multiple lives and highlighted the urgent need for safer, more reliable transport corridors. In coordination with security and customs agencies, the Yemeni Transport Authority has designated the Al-Wadiah border crossing via the Al Abr Road as the sole approved route for passenger and cargo vehicles traveling to and from Saudi Arabia.
The Al Abr Road, which connects key governorates including Hadhramaut, Marib, and Shabwah, has recently undergone rehabilitation efforts to improve infrastructure and reduce risks for travelers. Authorities emphasized that the new route complies with safety standards and facilitates smoother border procedures.
Transport companies and drivers are required to adhere strictly to the new routing regulations. Violations may result in penalties, including suspension of operating licenses. The Transport Authority urged all stakeholders to update their logistics plans and inform personnel of the changes.
This measure reflects the Yemeni government's broader commitment to protecting lives, improving transport governance, and ensuring safe mobility across national borders, especially in light of recent tragedies.
For operational details and compliance guidelines, transport operators are advised to consult the General Transport Authority’s official channels.
