37 Killed in Road Accidents in Yemen Within One Week
Aden — At least 37 people lost their lives in a series of road accidents across government-controlled regions of Yemen during the past week, according to preliminary reports from traffic authorities and local media outlets.
The fatalities occurred in multiple provinces including Aden, Taiz, Hadramout, and Marib, where deteriorating road conditions, poor vehicle maintenance, and reckless driving continue to pose serious risks to public safety.
Several of the incidents involved overturned vehicles, high-speed collisions, and pedestrian strikes, with many victims dying at the scene.
Traffic officials have attributed the surge in accidents to lack of enforcement of traffic laws, insufficient road signage, and aging infrastructure, especially in mountainous and rural areas. The absence of emergency response systems and limited access to trauma care have further contributed to the high death toll.
Civil society groups and transportation experts are calling on the Yemeni government to prioritize road safety reforms, including public awareness campaigns, stricter licensing procedures, and investment in infrastructure rehabilitation.
The tragic spike in road fatalities underscores the broader challenges facing Yemen’s transportation sector, which has been severely impacted by years of conflict, economic instability, and neglect.
