SANAA — Houthi militias have arrested Hanan Al-Shaibani, a Yemeni employee of the United Nations, following a raid on her apartment in the capital Sanaa, according to local sources and humanitarian officials. 

The arrest comes amid a broader crackdown on UN personnel and aid workers operating in Houthi-controlled areas.

Al-Shaibani, who recently suffered a miscarriage and remains in a fragile medical state, was reportedly detained without warning or legal justification. 

Witnesses say armed Houthi operatives stormed her residence late Sunday night, ignoring pleas from neighbors and family members regarding her deteriorating health.

The incident has sparked outrage among humanitarian circles, with UN officials condemning the arrest as a violation of international norms protecting aid workers. 

“This is a deeply troubling escalation,” said one UN representative, noting that Al-Shaibani had been recovering from a traumatic medical episode and was under close care at the time of her detention.
