Yemeni Red Crescent and ICRC Distribute 1,100 Food Baskets to Flood-Affected Displaced Families in Marib
Marib — In a vital humanitarian intervention, the Yemeni Red Carescent Society, in partnership with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), has distributed 1,100 food baskets to families displaced by recent floods and heavy rainfall in camps across Marib Governorate.
The aid targets the most vulnerable households affected by seasonal downpours that swept through displacement camps earlier this month, damaging shelters and disrupting access to basic services. Each food basket contains essential items including flour, rice, cooking oil, legumes, and canned goods, designed to support a family for several weeks.
“This joint effort reflects our commitment to alleviating the suffering of displaced communities and responding swiftly to emergencies,” said a spokesperson from the Yemeni Red Crescent. “The floods have compounded the hardships of families already living in fragile conditions.”
The ICRC emphasized the importance of coordinated humanitarian action in Marib, which hosts one of the largest concentrations of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Yemen. The organization reaffirmed its support for long-term resilience programs alongside emergency relief.
Local authorities and camp coordinators praised the initiative, noting that food insecurity remains a pressing concern amid ongoing conflict and economic instability. Beneficiary families expressed gratitude for the timely assistance, which arrived as many struggled to recover from water damage and loss of personal belongings.
Humanitarian agencies continue to assess needs in Marib and surrounding areas, with plans underway for additional distributions of shelter materials, hygiene kits, and medical support.
