Yemeni Official Aftehan Al-Mashhri Laid to Rest in Funeral in Taiz
Taiz – Hundreds of mourners gathered today in Taiz to bid farewell to Aftehan Al-Mashhri, the Director of the Cleaning and Improvement Fund in Taiz Governorate, who was tragically killed in a recent attack.
Her funeral, held at Al-Saeed Mosque, drew a wide array of attendees including government officials, military leaders, civil society representatives, and grieving citizens.
Governor of Taiz, Nabil Shamsan, led the procession alongside senior officials and community leaders, praising Al-Mashhri’s dedication to public service and her tireless efforts to improve urban infrastructure in one of Yemen’s most war-affected cities.
Following the prayer service, her body was transported to her hometown in Al-Mashawla, Al-Ma’afir District, where she was laid to rest amid heartfelt tributes and expressions of sorrow.
Al-Mashhri’s death has sparked widespread condemnation and renewed calls for accountability and protection of public servants in Yemen. Her legacy as a pioneering female leader in local governance was honored by colleagues and citizens alike, many of whom described her as a symbol of resilience and integrity.
