Yemen : Prime Suspect in Al-Mashhri Killing Shot Dead
Taiz ــ Security forces in Taiz have confirmed the death of Mohammed Sadeq Al-Makhlafi, known by the alias “Al-Bashiq”, the primary suspect in the assassination of activist and government official Aftehan Al-Mashhri.
Al-Mashhri was gunned down on September 18 while en route to her workplace at the Cleaning and Improvement Fund in central Taiz.
According to official statements, Al-Makhlafi was killed during a raid conducted by security units in the Tabbat Al-Wakeel area, east of the city.
The operation reportedly involved an exchange of gunfire, resulting in the suspect’s death and the arrest of one of his alleged accomplices, Jassar Ahmed Qassem.
Authorities have circulated images of additional suspects believed to be linked to the attack and have intensified security checkpoints across the city.
The assassination of Al-Mashhri, a prominent advocate for peace and women’s empowerment, has sparked widespread outrage and renewed calls for justice and accountability.
Her family, supported by civil society groups, continues to demand a full investigation and the prosecution of all individuals involved in the crime.
