Aden — Yemen’s national youth football team has etched a new chapter in its sporting history, advancing to the final of the inaugural U-20 Gulf Cup after a commanding 2-0 victory over Oman on Sunday evening.

The match, held in Abha, Saudi Arabia, saw Yemen take an early lead through striker Mohammad Al-Barwani, whose precise finish ignited celebrations among fans and teammates alike. 

Despite missing a penalty and facing a resilient Omani side, Yemen maintained control throughout the game. A red card for Oman further tilted momentum, and in the final minutes, Zaid Al-Jarash sealed the win with a second goal, confirming Yemen’s dominance.

President Rashad Alimi personally congratulated the team, praising their sportsmanship and determination. 

He emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting youth sports and hailed the victory as a unifying moment for the Yemeni people.

Yemen will now face Saudi Arabia in the final on Wednesday, with hopes high for clinching their first-ever Gulf title. 

The achievement has sparked widespread pride across the nation, marking a rare moment of joy amid ongoing challenges.
