Yemen Urges Global Action Against Houthi Sabotage in the Red Sea
Aden — The Yemeni government has called on the international community to take decisive measures against the sabotage operations carried out by Houthi militias in the Red Sea, warning that continued attacks threaten maritime security and global trade routes.
In an official statement, authorities stressed that the Houthis’ actions including targeting commercial vessels and disrupting shipping lanes pose a direct risk to international navigation.
The government also highlighted the urgent need to halt the ongoing smuggling of weapons and narcotics into areas under Houthi control, which it said fuels instability and prolongs the conflict.
Officials urged regional and global partners to intensify efforts to safeguard the Red Sea, strengthen monitoring mechanisms, and enforce sanctions aimed at dismantling the Houthis’ illicit supply chains.
“The Red Sea must remain a safe corridor for international trade, not a theater for armed groups to expand their influence,” the statement read.
Analysts note that Yemen’s appeal reflects growing concern over the Houthis’ ability to sustain their operations despite mounting military and financial pressures.
International cooperation, they argue, will be critical to curbing the group’s reach and restoring confidence in one of the world’s most vital maritime routes.
