Aden -- The United Nations Security Council is scheduled to hold its regular monthly meeting on Yemen in mid-November, where it will vote on the renewal of the sanctions regime targeting individuals and entities undermining peace and stability in the country.

According to the Security Council’s official forecast, the meeting will include a briefing by Ambassador Jihoon Cha of the Republic of Korea, chair of the 2140 Yemen Sanctions Committee. 

The Council is expected to extend the financial and travel ban measures, which are set to expire on November 15, and to renew the mandate of the Panel of Experts on Yemen, whose term ends on December 15.

The sanctions, originally imposed under Resolution 2140 (2014), aim to deter actions that threaten Yemen’s political transition, including violence, obstruction of humanitarian aid, and violations of international law. The targeted arms embargo on the Houthi rebel group, established by Resolution 2216 (2015), remains open-ended.

The meeting comes amid ongoing insecurity, a deepening humanitarian crisis, and stalled peace efforts in Yemen. 

UN officials and humanitarian agencies continue to urge the international community to maintain pressure on spoilers and support pathways to a negotiated settlement.
