Aden — Yemeni security forces have intercepted a vessel loaded with Iranian-made weapons en route to Houthi-controlled areas, in what officials are calling one of the most significant smuggling busts of the year. 

The ship, identified as a “Boom”-type vessel, was seized off the coast of Al-Sabihah and Ras Al-Arah in Lahj Governorate, following precise surveillance and intelligence coordination.

Initial inspections revealed the ship was carrying food and medical supplies, but a hidden compartment was later discovered containing an anti-tank missile and drone spare parts, according to security sources involved in the operation. Eight crew members were detained, and the vessel was impounded for legal investigation.

Authorities confirmed that the ship had departed from Bandar Abbas port in Iran, and was linked to a senior Houthi commander. The seizure underscores Tehran’s continued support for the Houthis through covert maritime smuggling networks, despite international sanctions and repeated warnings.

This operation follows a larger July 2025 interception by Yemeni National Resistance Forces, which uncovered over 750 tons of Iranian weapons, including cruise missiles, drone engines, and air defense systems.
