Yemen : Houthi Leader Warns of Renewed Attacks on Israel if Gaza Ceasefire Is Violated
Sana’a — In a televised address, Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, the head of the Houthi rebels , issued a stern warning that his forces would resume attacks on Israel if the ceasefire agreement with Hamas in Gaza is breached. The statement comes amid fragile calm following a phased truce brokered between Israel and Hamas earlier this month.
“We are watching the implementation of the agreement,” al-Houthi said. “If there are any Israeli breaches, massacres, or renewed aggression, we will be ready to provide military support to the Palestinian people”.
The Houthi leader accused Israel of “failing miserably” in Gaza and claimed that the ceasefire was a forced concession resulting from its inability to achieve its military objectives. He emphasized that the Houthis remain committed to the Palestinian cause and will not hesitate to intervene if hostilities resume.
Since the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas war in October 2023, the Houthis have launched hundreds of drones and ballistic missiles toward Israel, positioning themselves as part of the broader “Axis of Resistance” alongside Hezbollah and Iranian-backed militias in Iraq. While most of these attacks have been intercepted or fell short, several have caused damage and casualties.
Al-Houthi’s remarks have raised concerns about a potential regional escalation, especially in light of previous Houthi attacks on Red Sea shipping lanes and Israeli-linked vessels. The group has also threatened to expand its operations beyond maritime targets if the ceasefire collapses.
