The Israeli police said they had secured a site in the Red Sea port city of Eilat on Thursday after the impact of a drone launched from the east.

“Officers have secured the impact site, and police bomb disposal experts are working to both identify the object and remove the remains,” the force said in a statement.

“Search and rescue teams are operating in the area where the report was received regarding the impact,” the military said in a separate statement.

Israeli media aired footage showing that the drone had hit near the entrance of a hotel.

The military added that the air force had intercepted a second drone approaching from the east.

No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.

Thursday’s incident comes just days before the start of Jewish New Year holidays, when many Israeli families travel to Eilat to celebrate.

During the Rosh Hashanah break, visitors typically combine time on the city’s beaches with jeep tours into the surrounding rugged mountains.
