The US Treasury Department on Thursday announced in a statement its largest sanctions action to date against Yemen’s Houthis, targeting 32 individuals and entities and identifying four vessels linked to the Houthi rebels.

The statement said the networks hit by the measures are part of the Houthis’ global fundraising, smuggling and weapons procurement operations.

They include companies and operatives based in Yemen, China, UAE and the Marshall Islands.

“The Houthis continue to threaten US personnel and assets in the Red Sea, attack our allies in the region, and undermine international maritime security in coordination with the Iranian regime,” John K. Hurley, Treasury’s under secretary for terrorism and financial intelligence said.

" The sanctions target Houthi-linked actors that finance and facilitate the acquisition of advanced military materials such as ballistic missile, cruise missile and drone components used in attacks on US forces, allies and commercial shipping in the Red Sea." Hurley added.

Washington says the Houthis generate substantial revenue by importing oil and other commodities through ports they control, running smuggling networks and laundering money for senior leadership.

Those proceeds, the treasury says, bankroll a global weapons supply chain reliant on front companies, shipping facilitators and suppliers.

The sanctions block access to US property and bank accounts and prevent the targeted people and companies from doing business with Americans.

The US State Department designated Ansar Allah, commonly known as the Houthis, as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist group in February 2024 and as a Foreign Terrorist Organization in March 2025.
