Abu Dhabi - Wizz Air announced today that it will suspend all operations in Abu Dhabi starting September 1, 2025, as part of a broader strategic restructuring plan. The decision marks a significant shift for the budget airline, which launched its UAE base in 2020 with ambitious expansion goals across the Middle East.

According to company officials, the move was prompted by operational challenges—including engine performance issues exacerbated by high temperatures—as well as geopolitical instability and regulatory constraints in the region. Repeated disruptions in regional airspace and reduced consumer demand were also cited as contributing factors.

“The Middle East remains a market with vast potential, but current conditions require us to refocus our resources,” a spokesperson said. Wizz Air will now concentrate on its core European markets, including Austria, Italy, and the United Kingdom.

The airline had previously set out to expand its Abu Dhabi fleet to 100 aircraft over 15 years. Industry analysts suggest that the withdrawal could impact regional tourism and budget travel connectivity, particularly between Gulf nations and Eastern Europe.
