CMF Seizes $130 Million Drug Shipment in Arabian Sea Off Southern Yemen
Manama — The Combined Maritime Forces (CMF) announced the successful seizure of a large narcotics shipment valued at over $130 million in the Arabian Sea, south of Yemen, marking the second major drug bust in less than a month.
According to a statement released by CMF, the operation was carried out by one of its naval task forces during a routine maritime security patrol. The intercepted vessel was found carrying a substantial quantity of illegal narcotics, including heroin, methamphetamines, and hashish, concealed in hidden compartments.
The seizure took place in international waters near key shipping lanes, an area increasingly targeted by transnational smuggling networks. CMF officials emphasized that the operation dealt a significant blow to criminal organizations that exploit maritime routes to fund illicit activities.
“This successful interdiction demonstrates our continued commitment to disrupting the flow of narcotics and enhancing maritime security in the region,” said a CMF spokesperson. “We remain vigilant and ready to act against any threat to lawful maritime commerce.”
The confiscated drugs were transferred to a coalition vessel for documentation and destruction in accordance with international protocols.
The CMF, a 39-nation naval partnership headquartered in Bahrain, has intensified its patrols in the Gulf of Aden and Arabian Sea amid rising concerns over smuggling, piracy, and regional instability.
The latest operation underscores the growing role of multinational cooperation in securing one of the world’s most strategic maritime corridors.
